In support of websites who are protesting SOPA and PIPA, Google slowed down its Googlebots.
Here’s why:
Typically, when a search engine comes across a site that has drastically changed its homepage overnight (like Craiglist or Mozilla have done in protest of SOPA and PIPA) alarms go off and the sites would lose SEO points.
But for the time being, Google is slowing down its bots so that these sites aren’t penalized. It’s Google’s way of supporting those websites who are protesting these newsworthy acts.
